Ecuador

Ecuador is situated in the Northwest of South America and topographically is one of the most diverse countries on earth.

Located at the equator this country stretches from the coastal region at the Pacific Ocean the central region of the Andes (up to a height of 6.000m) and to the lower regions of the Amazon-River in the east.

Ecuador has about 14 million inhabitants; about 40 % of the population is under 15 years of age and only 5% over 65. The average age is 23 – compared to 42 in Germany. Its capital is Quito. Riobamba is situated 200 km south of Quito, in the central region of the Andes.

The country's surface is slightly larger than that of Great Britain.

Colombia

Columbia is located in the Northwest of South America and borders on both the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean. With its 42,645 million inhabitants Columbia is, after Brazil, the second most populated state in South America.
74% of the entire population is living in the conurbations and towns.
25,8 % of the citizens of Columbia are living below the official minimum living standard.
According to the figures of the World Bank more than 49 % of the
Columbians live in poverty, 7 % of which are regarded as "absolutely poor" which means that they only have a daily income of less than 1 US-Dollar.
Columbia is known to be the country with the highest number of kidnapping and murders; the greatest numbers of human rights' offences are committed by guerilla-organisations.
